Salty Chef

He’s a fully-functioning salt shaker chef!

I had made the sculpture back during winter break. And, I just now got the chance to paint him! He was inspired by one of the chefs at the CalArts cafeteria. His head detaches from the body. Here’s a WIP of the painting:

Too bad he’s fragile… Right now he’s proudly on display in a display case. But he’s not working in the kitchen, like he should be.

Finally, the complete (and well-overdone, or cooked) maquette!

After taking great caution when packing her to take her to school, I painted her with Liquitex Acrylics. In order to get the ruffles of her dress, I bought some iradescent ribbon, painted it (to tint it purple), cut and folded it and then put it on her dress with a hot glue gun. (Same with the golden belts).

Compare the finished product with the concept paintings!

The last project in our design class is a character maquette; this week we had to paint a turn-around of our character in gouache.

Latest and greatest from CalArts work! Sorry in advance for the low quality images and the poor lighting. The cubicles are nice and cozy, and while I can definitely see what I’m working on, the lighting isn’t the best for pictures!

And here’s a wire project for my design class, we had to make a “container of space”.

Guess that’s it for now… they suuuuure are keeping us busy! Last week we animated rollercoasters, which was incredibly fun…. This week we animate fish!
